Street portrait of S5161 Stoker (STO) John Edward Thomas Gannon, RAN, of Warrawong, NSW. A merchant seaman prior to his enlistment, STO Gannon was killed on the night of 31 May 1942 when HMAS Kuttabul, the converted ferry on which he was serving, was sunk in Sydney Harbour by a torpedo fired during the raid by Japanese midget submarines. He was aged 35 years.
