Studio portrait of 5058 Private Walter Mills, 22nd Battalion, of Winton, Vic. A labourer in Violet Town, Vic., prior to enlisting on 3 February 1916, he embarked with the 13th Reinforcements from Melbourne on HMAT Ayrshire on 3 July 1916. He was killed on 2 June 1917 in France, at the age of 19, having been injured by the premature explosion of a bomb from the muzzle of a Stokes mortar.
