Description
A Memorial Card incorporating a studio portrait of 4587 Pte Robert Patmore, 4th Battalion, of Woonona, NSW. Pte Patmore was born in Wigan, Lancashire, and emigrated to Australia with his family when a child. A wheeler prior to enlistment, Pte Patmore enlisted on 15 November 1915 and embarked for Egypt aboard HMAT Wandilla (A62) on 3 February 1916. In April 1916, he developed Myelitis with paraplegia and was hospitalised in Abbassia. He was invalided to Australia on 17 July 1916. On 28 July, whilst en route to Australia aboard HMAT Seang Choon, Pte Patmore died in the ship's hospital and was buried at sea.
