Colour patch : Royal Australian Artillery 1 Australian Armoured Division
Colour patch with grey border, showing a horizontally aligned red diamond superimposed over the top of a horizontally aligned dark blue rectangle.
This colour patch, designed and supplied in 1941, was not issued to members of the Second AIF until May 1943. Initially this was because no authority had been given to raise divisional artillery. In March 1942 Citizens' Military Force artillery units were attached to 1 Armoured Division and a new set of colour patches designed. In May 1943 it was decided that only the original 1941 patch should be used by artillery units attached to the division. It continued to be worn until 1945 by members of artillery units attached to 1 Australian Armoured Brigade Group, which superceded the division when it was disbanded in September 1943.
