Description

Studio portrait of Staff Nurse (SN) Carrie de Groot. SN de Groot was a nurse at St Vincent's Hospital in Melbourne before enlisting on 18 June 1917. She embarked from Melbourne for Bombay on the SS Somali on 30 June 1916. On 30 July 1916 she was posted for duty at Colaba War Hospital, Bombay, where she worked as an Army nurse. On 1 July 1918 she was admitted to hospital suffering from influenza. On 15 September 1918 she was admitted to the Sisters' Hospital, Colaba. She was diagnosed with tuberculosis and on 11 December 1918 she was invalided to Australia, being discharged from the AIF on 28 February 1919. She died in the early 1920s.
