M.N. Austin & R.B. Im Thurn - wedding
Description
Wedding portrait of 409368 Flight Lieutenant (Flt Lt) Mervyn Neville Austin RAAF and his wife Rosemary (nee Im Thurn). Flt Lt Austin was selected Victorian Rhodes Scholar in 1936 and a year later was at Oxford University. He enlisted in the RAAF on 15 August 1941 and trained as a navigator with the Empire Air Training Scheme (EATS). He was posted to 456 Squadron RAAF and later wrote its history. Post War he became a headmaster and later a professor of Classics and Ancient History at the University of Western Australia. During the Second World War, Rosemary served with the WAAF, training as a cipher officer.
