Studio portrait of 2816 Driver (Dvr) Allan George Winter, 3rd Light Horse Regiment, of Piccadilly, SA. A gardener before enlisting in January 1916, Dvr Winter left Australia for Egypt with the 19th Reinforcements in July 1916. Arriving in Palestine in August 1916, Dvr Winter was transferred to the 1st Light Horse Regiment Machine Gun Squadron in September 1916 where he remained for the rest of the war before returning to Australia in May 1919. Allan Winter later enlisted in the Second AIF as a Private (Pte) in March 1940 (serial number S212804) and served with the Headquarters Guard Battalion attached to the Number 11 (Central Australia) Lines of Communication in the Northern Territory. Pte Winter died of illness in South Australia on 30 October 1945, aged 50.
