Studio portrait of 421157 Flight Sergeant (Flt Sgt) (later Acting Flight Lieutenant) Lyle Ewart Button, RAAF, 149 Squadron RAF. Born in Blacktown, NSW, Flt Sgt Button enlisted on 31 January 1942 in Sydney, NSW. He was lost on operations on 2 February 1945. He was pilot of a Lancaster BI bomber, serial number NN708, callsign OJ-Q, which crashed at Nierderbrechen, near Wiesbaden, Germany, following a raid on Wiesbaden, killing five members of its crew. Another Australian was killed on-board this aircraft, 427963 Warrant Officer Peter Henry Wales.
