Group portrait of soldiers at a training camp in Victoria. On the far left, smoking a cigarette, is 3395 Private (Pte) Thomas Patrick Rooney 5th Battalion, later 59th Battalion, of Northcote, Vic. Pte Rooney was wounded in action at Fromelles, France, on 19 July 1916. He died of his wounds at Chatham, England, on 16 November 1916, aged 21. The other soldiers are unidentified.
