Albert Norman Ward as a private 2/27th Battalion and and Alain Haryy Thomson as a warrant officer 2/27th Battalion New Guinea, 1942-1943, interviewed by the author Peter Brune as research for his books on Second World War New Guinea conflicts.

History / Summary

Ward and Thomson discuss their training in Queensland, their uniform and equipment, the conditions on the Kokoda Track, biscuit bombers, Mission Ridge and Brigade Hill and the relief of the 39th. They also talk about their battle, dispositions, being cut off, food shortage, impressions of Cooper and other officers, the Koitaki Parade, signals on the track and coming in, the conditions and battle at Gona, all the Bren gunners being hit, casualties at Gona, Divisional HG and Vasey.
