Studio portrait of 2643 Private (Pte) Robert Meigan, 3rd Battalion, of Sydney, NSW. A labourer prior to enlistment, he embarked from Sydney with the 8th Reinforcements aboard HMAT Runic on 9 August 1915. Moving with his unit to France in March 1916, Pte Meigan was killed in action during the battalion's first major action at Pozieres on 24 July 1916, aged 29. Pte Meigan has a heart shaped fob hanging from the chain attached to his uniform.
