Description

Studio portrait of 83 Private (Pte) Charles Frederick Sandberg, who served under the alias of Frederick Litton, 16th Battalion, of Fremantle, WA. A boatbuilder before enlisting in September 1914, Pte Sandberg left Australia for Egypt in December 1914 and took part in the Gallipoli landing on the afternoon of 25 April 1915. He spent just two days on Gallipoli before he was killed during a Turkish attack on Quinn's Post on 27 April 1915, aged 22. Pte Sandberg has no known grave.
