Catlin, Robert Henry (Private, b.1888 - d.1915)
Collection relating to the service of 1113 Private (Pte) Robert Henry Catlin, 11 Battalion, AIF, Australia, Egypt, Gallipoli, 1914-1915. Collection consists chiefly of letters written by Robert Henry Catlin to various members of his family, between the years 1896 and 1915. His earlier letters include a couple written when he was a child, and then later working in New Zealand, Fiji and the Northern Territory (NT) and Western Australia. Mention of Aboriginal people he encountered while living in the Adelaide River region of the NT is included in his letters of March and April 1914 prior to enlistment in the AIF using derogatory language. His last letter was written to his mother on 10 February 1915, from Abbassia Camp in Egypt. Pte Catlin was killed in action at Gallipoli on 25 April 1915. Collection also includes numerous letters written by Robert's sister Alice J Lee (nee Catlin) and his brother Richard John Catlin, as well as two letters written by Robert's brother-in-law Reginald W Lee, and one letter of condolence written by 874 Private Stanley Lee (6 Light Horse). The telegram delivering the news of Pte Catlin's death is also in the collection.

Native of Reidsdale, near Braidwood, New South Wales. Other biographical details regarding Private Robert Catlin are: labourer; educated at Reidsdale Public School, near Braidwood.
