History / Summary

This 23 Infantry Brigade, 8 Division banner was used at an ANZAC Day march in 2003 or 2004. The units represented on the banner are the 2/21 Battalion known as 'Gull Force', 2/22 Battalion known as 'Lark Force' and 2/40 Battalion known as 'Sparrow Force'. These units suffered a particularly high death rate and there were relatively few members left to march, even immediately following the war. The banner was made in response to the dwindling number of marchers in each of these battalions. Each battalion association decided they would march together as a brigade and the banner was duly created. it was used only once as the grandchildren of association members expressed an interest in marching in their grandfathers' places, and the original battalion groups were resurrected.
