Studio portrait of Lieutenant Frederick Hulks, 32nd Battalion. A drill sergeant, and formerly a piano maker, of Woollahra, NSW, he embarked on HMAT Geelong from Adelaide, SA, on 18 November 1915. He was killed in action on 19 July 1916 at the battle of Fromelles. He has no known grave and is listed on the VC Corner Australian Cemetery Memorial. He had previously served with the Duke of Cornwall's Light Infantry as a Company Sergeant Major in Tirah and Punjab and also in South Africa.
