One photograph relating to Pte L.J Simons
Description
Informal group portrait of a group of soldiers at a camp with a sign "It's a long way to Tipperary." Some of the men are holding rations including a loaf of bread and tinned food. This image relates to the service of 951 Private (Pte) Leslie John Simons, 15th Battalion, who is crouching and holding up a piece of bread. Pte Simons died of wounds at Gallipoli on 24 May 1915. Papers, badges and souvenirs related to the service of Pte Simons are held at the Australian War Memorial.
