Description

Model 1915 Saxon Cuirassier other rank's pickelhaube. The helmet is painted black and has a steel spike and a two-piece steel helmet plate of the state of Saxony. It has a lobster-tail neck guard. There are no cockades, chin strap or helmet liner, but the inner sweatband remains in place. Stamped on the inside crown is, 'G H OSANG DRESDEN', '1916' and '56'.

History / Summary

Pickelhauben were worn by the German military until the introduction of the steel helmet Model 1916 in 1916. Originally made of leather, this is an example of later models made of steel. The lobster-tail neck guard suggests it was worn by mounted troops - probably cuirassiers.
