Bingham, John Hexter 'Jock' (Sergeant, b.1914)
Collection relating to the Second World War service of 5378 Sergeant John Hexter 'Jock' Bingham, Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF). Collection consists of a humorous good luck note written on toilet paper and presented as a 'scroll' to Sergeant Bingham, by colleagues at Commonwealth Aircraft Corporation in 1939 to mark Bingham leaving his job after enlisting in RAAF for war service. Also included is an envelope addressed to Sergeant Bingham. Sergeant Bingham served in 1 Squadron RAAF in Malaysia and the Far East campaign, was captured by the Japanese and as a prisoner of war (POW) worked on the Burma-Thai railway. Also in the Memorial's collection is a book titled 'World War II as I saw it', by John Bingham, held at call number 940.5472 B613.
