not titled [range card depicting features of Baluchi Valley]
Range Card featuring mountainous landscape showing buildings and roads in the centre of the valley with a grouping of rocks in the lower left of the composition and with red numbers (1-9) identifying peaks on the landscape.
Inchley joined the Australian Defence Force (Army) in 2005 as an infantryman and paratrooper with Third Battalion Royal Australian Regiment (3RAR). In 2008 he was deployed to Afghanistan with the Reconstruction Task Force team where he created this range card series (ART94002 - ART94010) while on location in the Baluchi Valley. Range cards are created whenever a section or platoon conducts a halt or moves into a defensive location, each soldier and commander creates a visual depiction of the ground as they see it, identifying key features and ranges. These are all later combined into Battle Cards held at the Company and Battalion level which are used to coordinate weapon effects and fires onto enemy positions. They are also used when a position is handed over to another allied force.
