Description

A panorama group portrait of 1st Machine Gun Company. In the front row, fifth from the right, is 658 Private (Pte) Victor Thomas Barr of Charters Towers, Qld. A draper prior to enlisting in September 1916, Pte Barr embarked with the 11th Reinforcements from Melbourne on board HMAT Shropshire (A9) on 11 May 1917. The Reinforcements arrived in France in April 1917 and shortly after Pte Barr was transferred to 3rd Machine Gun Battalion. He was wounded in action by a gun shot wound to the head on 22 August 1918. He died of his wounds at 10th General Hospital, Rouen, on 24 August 1918. Pte Barr was 19 years of age.
