Group portrait of the Alderson brothers. Identified, left to right 1702 Private (Pte) Henry Sydney Alderson, 13th Battalion; 2955 Pte Charles Stanley (Stanley) Alderson (enlisted under the alias Harold Palser), 40th Battalion; and 1703 Pte Frank Alderson, 13th Battalion. Stanley Alderson enlisted at age 17 while his father was overseas assisting with the distribution of comforts to soldiers in Egypt and France. His underage enlistment was discovered and he returned home. Once Stanley turned 18 he was determined to enlist and did so using the name Harold Palser, embarking on 25 October 1916 with the 20th Battalion. Harold Palser was killed in action on 3 May 1917, and his father subsequently applied to have his name corrected to Charles Stanley Alderson on his record.
