Studio portrait of 2132 Private (later Sergeant) John Dawson, 19th Battalion of Parramatta, NSW. A builder prior to enlisting, he embarked from Sydney aboard the HMAT Argyllshire (A8) on 30 September 1915. He was killed in action on 3 May 1917 at Noreuil, France during the Battle of Bullecourt, aged 26. He is buried in the Queant Road Cemetery Buissy, France.
