Studio portrait of 5785 Private William Ernest Brickley, 18th Battalion of Clyde, NSW. A fitter prior to enlisting, he embarked from Sydney aboard the HMAT Ceramic (A40) on 7 October 1916. He was killed in action on 3 May 1917 during the second battle of Bullecourt, France, aged 29. He has no known grave and is remembered with honour on the Villers-Bretonneux Memorial, France.
