Studio portrait of 1284 Private Lionel Cecil Thompson, Light Trench Mortar Battery, (later 19th Battalion) of Granville, NSW. A carpenter prior to enlisting, he embarked from Sydney aboard HMAT Ceramic (A40) on 7 October 1916. He was killed in action on 13 January 1918 while on a reconnaissance mission near Locre, Belgium, aged 25. He is buried in the Lancashire Cottage Cemetery, Belgium.
