Studio portrait of 5516 Gunner Dominick Joseph Maher, 1st Field Artillery Brigade of Lidcombe, NSW. A pastrycook prior to enlisting, he embarked from Melbourne aboard HMAT Nestor (A71) on 11 October 1915. He was killed in action, on 26 July 1916, near Pozieres, France, aged 25. He is buried in the Gordon Dump Cemetery, Ovillers-La Boiselle, France.
