Studio portrait of 4195 Private Frederick William Nicholls 25th Battalion of Lismore, NSW. A farmer prior to enlisting, he embarked from Sydney aboard HMAT Commonwealth (A73) on 28 March 1916. Pte Nicholls was killed in action, in the trenches near Flers, France on 14 November 1916, aged 34. He is buried in the Warlencourt British Cemetery, France.
