Studio portrait of 5779 Sapper (Spr) George Andrew Penning, 15th Battalion, with the 18th Reinforcements. Prior to enlistment Spr Penning a grazier, embarked from Brisbane, Qld aboard HMAT Seong Choon A49 on 4 May 1916. He served in France with the 3rd Australian Light Railway Operating Company for the duration of the war and returned to Australia on 5 September 1919.
