Digital manuscript, 'Bert Warner in the Australian Army 1929-36 and 1939-45', by Peter Hobbins. The manuscript is an account of the service of Herbert Frank Warner (240541, WP5981 and WX4535, Corporal) in the Australian Army; his first period of service was in the Commonwealth Military Forces (CMF), and his second period of service was in the 2nd Australian Imperial Force (AIF). A printed copy can be provided for ease of access.
During his first period of service (1929-1936) Warner was a member of A Squadron, 10th Light Horse Regiment. He re-enlisted in 1939 into the CMF and joined the Remount Section of the Australian Army Service Corps. After the outbreak of the Second World War, Warner was second to the 2nd AIF. He first served overseas with the 2/7 Field Ambulance in North Africa, Greece and Crete. In May 1941 he joined the Provost Company of the 6th Division. He briefly served in Ceylon with a small detachment of the 6th Division from March to July 1942. On his return to Australia he served in Sydney and New South Wales, and later in Queensland at the 1 Australian Personnel Staging Camp. From January 1944 he was variously detached to the 16th, 17th and 19th Australian Infantry Brigades. He served again overseas in New Guinea. He was finally discharged on 15 October 1945.
The manuscript includes photographs throughout.
