Studio portrait of NX4172 Private, (Pte) (later Corporal), Arthur Tanner, 2/1Battalion, of Manly, NSW. Pte Tanner enlisted at North Sydney, NSW on 3 November 1939. He served in the Middle East, Greece and Crete where he was captured by German troops on or around 30 May 1941. He remained a prisoner of war for the duration of the war. At war's end he returned to Australia and was discharged from the army on 16 October 1945.
