Studio portrait of 2988 Private (Pte) Charles Victor Thomas, 55th Battalion (later 17th Battalion). He embarked with the 7th Reinforcements, 55th Battalion aboard HMAT Ascanius on 25 October 1916. When he transferred to the 17th Battalion his service number changed to 2988B. He was killed in action at Lagnicourt, France on 15 April 1917. He was aged 22 years.
