Studio portrait of 7180 Private (Pte) John Thomas Sayers, 25th Battalion. A miner in civilian life, Pte Sayers originally enlisted in Sydney on 11 October 1916 with the service number N57414. He was allocated to the Machine Gun Reinforcements, but deserted from the AIF on 21 December 1916 whilst still in Australia. On 30 October 1917 he re-enlisted under the alias Pte Robert Andrews, service number 7180. He embarked with the 21st Reinforcements from Sydney on SS Canberra on 16 November 1917, and was killed in action in France on 3 October 1918, aged 27.
