'R for Robert on Slipway'
Description
'R for Robert on Slipway'. R for Robert was a Wellington Bomber which flew during the early years of the Second World War, successfully completing 14 missions. The aircraft was then reassigned for training purposes to No. 20 Officer Training Unit (OTU) in Lossiemouth, Scotland. On New Years Eve 1940, whilst on a training mission in bad conditions, the Wellington Bomber crashed into Loch Ness, with the loss of one trainee pilot. The Wellington was recovered in 1985. (From the collection of 425273 Corporal James Bruce caldwell, RAAF.)
