Description

Informal group portrait of the all-Australian crew of the British-built RAF Lincoln bomber "Atlas" prior to departure from England on a flight to RAAF Laverton airbase, Australia. The British Air Ministry sent the aircraft to allow a series of tropical tests to afford comparisons with the Australian-built version. Members of the crew, positions unknown, are: Squadron Leader E. L. Pickles, DFC, of Balldale, NSW (pilot); Flight-Lieutenant A.J. Henry, DFC, of Cronulla, NSW (2nd pilot); Squadron-Ldr L. E. Parker, DFC, of South Yarra, V (navigator, bomb aimer); Flying-Officer D. D. Macdonald, DFC, of Kogarah, NSW, (navigator); Flight-Lieut W. H. Brooker, DFC, of Murray Bridge, SA (air gunner); Flying-Officer J. H. Grahame, of Corrigin, WA (wire- less operator); and Squadron-Ldr P. J. Cornwall, DFM, of Paddington, NSW (flight engineer).
