Royal Tongan Marines GBR Quick Response Group
Description
The Royal Tongan Marines form part of the Combined Task Force (CTF). The CTF also includes Australian, New Zealand and Papua New Guinea troops. The CTF provides military support to the Regional Assistance Mission to the Solomon Islands (RAMSI). De Medici found the Tongans good natured, respectful and supremely fit. The young men were cheekily aware of their physical presence, as one soldier informed de Medici, 'Our god loves us, look at how he made the Tongan'. While rostered on to the Guadalcanal Beach Resort Quick Response Group, personnel passed the waiting time by playing the guitar, reading and completing other chores.
