Studio portrait of 474 Private (Pte) Thomas Alfred Dearlove, 32nd Battalion. A grazier from Ketchowla, South Australia, prior to enlistment, he embarked with the 1st Reinforcements from Adelaide aboard HMAT Geelong on 18 November 1915 for Suez. He was hospitalised for cellulitis in May 1916 and sailed for the Western Front, France, in June 1916 but did not rejoin his unit until 2 August 1916. He was hospitalised once again in December 1917 as the result of a railway accident near Boulogne and rejoined his battalion on 9 January 1918. Pte Dearlove was killed in action near Corbie, France, on 27 April 1918. He was aged 37 years. His nephew, Lieutenant Allan Isaac Davey, 32nd Battalion, was killed in action near Ypres on 21 October 1917.
