Description

Portrait of 4726 Private (Pte) Cecil Claude Ahrens, 10th Battalion. A driver from Upper Sturt, South Australia, prior to enlistment, he embarked from Adelaide on 9 March 1916 with the 15th Reinforcements aboard RMS Mongolia for Egypt. On 20 May 1916 he was transferred to the 50th Battalion which relocated to the Western Front, France, the following month. Pte Ahrens was reported missing in action at Mouquet Farm on 16 August 1916 and was subsequently determined to have been killed in action on that day. He has no known grave and he is commemorated on the Villers-Bretonneux Memorial, France. He was aged 19 years.
