Studio portrait of 3021 Private (Pte) Frederick Charles Fohrman, 10th Battalion. An upholsterer from Port Adelaide, South Australia, prior to enlistment, he embarked with the 10th Reinforcements from Adelaide on 14 September 1915 aboard HMAT Ballarat for Suez. In late February 1916 he was transferred to the 50th Battalion which relocated to the Western Front, France, in early June 1916. Pte Fohrman was wounded in action in mid-August 1916 and was treated in Etaples before returning to his unit six weeks later. He was also accidentally injured in mid-January 1917 which required evacuation to England for 15 weeks for treatment and recuperation. He was appointed Lance Corporal (L Cpl) in early July 1917. L Cpl Fohrman was killed in action near Villers-Bretonneux on 25 April 1918. He has no known grave and he is commemorated on the Villers-Bretonneux Memorial, France. He was aged 26 years. His older brother, 3597 Trooper John Anton Alexis Fohrman, served with the 3rd Light Horse Regiment in Egypt and Palestine from December 1917 until the end of the war, returning to Australia for discharge in May 1919.
