Studio portrait of 4195 Private (Pte) Frank Albert Howard, 10th Battalion. A farm labourer from Mount Gambier, South Australia, he embarked from Adelaide with the 13th Reinforcements of the 10th Battalion on 11 January 1916 aboard HMAT Borda (A30) for Egypt. On 29 February 1916 he was transferred to the 50th Battalion which relocated to the Western Front, France, in early June 1916. Pte Howard was killed in action near Albert on 16 August 1916. He has no known grave and he is commemorated on the Villers-Bretonneux Memorial, France. He was aged 22 years.
