Studio portrait of 3325 Driver (Dvr) Charles Eric Hammand, 7th Battalion, of Murrumbeena, Vic. A farmer prior to enlisting in July 1915, Hammand embarked from Melbourne with the 11th Reinforcements on board HMAT Nestor (A71) on 11 October 1915. In February 1916 he was transferred to the 59th Battalion and in March to the 57th Battery Australia Field Artillery. He arrived in France for service on the Western Front in June 1916 and in January 1917, was transferred to the 3rd Field Artillery Brigade. Drv Hammand was killed in action in France on 30 May 1918. He was 33 years of age.
