Studio portrait of 4812 Private (Pte) Elias Levy, 10th Battalion. A labourer from Adelaide, South Australia, prior to enlistment, he embarked with the 15th Reinforcements from Adelaide on 9 March 1916 aboard RMS Mongolia for Suez. On 20 May 1916 he was transferred to the 50th Battalion which relocated to the Western Front, France, during June 1916. He was wounded in action with shell shock during August 1916 and was hospitalised with illness the following October. Pte Levy was wounded in action near Bapaume, France, on 15 November 1916, and died of these wounds in the 4th Australian Field Ambulance later the same day. He was aged 29 years.
