Wallet 1 of 1 – Contains two folders of material relating to the service of Sergeant Willoughby Lloyd Williams.
Folder 1 of 2 consists of one log book of Sergeant Williams, containing entries dated between 6 July 1941 and 7 May 1942. It covers the period of Sergeant William’s training in Canada and the United Kingdom. The entries record details such as dates and times of flights, aircraft types and numbers, pilots, and purposes of flights. Purposes of flights include wireless operator training, air gunner training, and operational training. This log book also contains certificates for courses completed by Sergeant Williams.
Folder 2 of 2 consists of one commemorative scroll, which honours the service and death of Sergeant Williams.
Sergeant Willoughby Lloyd Williams enlisted to the Royal Australian Air Force on 5 July 1941. He trained as a wireless operator and air gunner in Canada and the United Kingdom under the Empire Air Training Scheme. Sergeant Williams then undertook operational training with 21 Operational Training Unit, based in the United Kingdom. On 8 May 1942, while participating in a night cross-country flight, Sergeant Williams died in an aircraft accident at Beckingham, Lincolnshire. He is buried at Thurlby (St. Germain) Churchyard, Lincolnshire, United Kingdom.
