Description

Collection consisting of one original 3 page handwritten letter dated 10 May 1940, written by Tom Ambrose, an Australian civilian working with the Australian Red Cross Society in Palestine, to his brother Eddie Ambrose in Brisbane. Tom describes the scenery and people in Palestine, and mentions that although a non combatant unit, they were under military regulations and discipline and therefore limited by the censor as to what could be written in a letter. In his letter, Tom makes many mentions of their sister, Letty (Annie Letitia Ambrose), and it is this sister who is thought to be standing next to Eddie in the original studio portrait included in this collection. Eddie had served overseas in the Australian Infantry Force during the First World War as 6278 Private Edward Henry Ambrose.
