Description
Group portrait of six soldiers, probably of the 30th Battalion. The inscription on the back of the photograph reads '"We have managed to get our group taken at last. I have some more on order I will send on a couple more. Top row, left to right - Mullin; Sergy; Whitty, bottom Cook; self [3025 Private Richard Sneddon, 30th Battalion]; Sutton". Pte Richard Sneddon embarked with the 6th Reinforcements from Sydney aboard HMAT Nestor (A71) on 9 April 1916. On 10 October 1917, while serving in France, Pte Sneddon received severe gunshot wounds to his right leg, which was later amputated. He returned to Australia on 24 May 1918. A collection of Pte Sneddon's letters sent to his family are held at the Australian War Memorial. See PR04574.
