462 Squadron R.A.A.F. Phoenix - The Desert
Collection relating to the story of the No. 462 Squadron, Royal Australian Air Force, by Antony Granville Batten, 1999.
Wallet 1 of 1 - Wallet consists of a typed manuscript providing the story of No. 462 Squadron, Royal Australian Air Force. It covers the period from September 1942 through to February 1944, and lists key events and occurrences by date in a diary-style presentation. The entries are taken from operational records, log books, personal diaries and memoirs. The manuscript recounts the experiences and actions of 462 Squadron through their service in North Africa, and begins with details on the formation of the squadron, attacks on Axis infrastructure and shipping and actions in support of ground forces at El Alamein. Batten mostly recounts raids on mainland Europe and the northern Mediterranean. Appendices summarise Royal Australian Air Force and Royal Air Force structure and uniform. The final appendix presents tables of missions and aircrew for the period covered by the manuscript.
