Iraqi Civilian Casualties
Description
In 2009, Michael Callaghan was the recipient of the H.C. Coombs Creative Arts Fellowship at the Australian National University. From his research and residency, Callaghan created the series, 'The Torture Memo - recent works' that included sculpture and screenprints. Each of these works overlay images of war and terror with English and Islamic text. This print 'Iraqi Civilian Casualties' is the first from an edition of 30. It shows English and Islamic text punctuated by icons of warfare - weapons and military vehicles. It shows the aftermath of a car bomb, detonated by an improvised explosive device
