Studio portrait of 529 Private (Pte) Bruce Floyd Hardy, 2nd Section Railway Unit. A fitter from Brunswick, Vic, Pte Hardy embarked from Melbourne aboard HMAT Ballarat (A70) on 19 February 1917. He was the third of three brothers to enlist and serve in the first world war. His older brother, Pte Robert Edwin Hardy (P09701.001), and his younger brother, Pte Harold Federal Hardy (P09701.003) were both killed in France in 1917 and 1918 respectively. Pte Bruce Floyd Hardy returned home in October 1917 having sustained injuries when HMAT Ballarat was torpedoed in the English Channel on 25 April 1917.
