Manuscript entitled "10 Digits Short: The biography of Spencer King (John) Blackburne". Describes his early life in Western Australia and experiences as a sapper in the 2/6th, 2/8th and 2/3rd field companies in the 6th Division during the North Africa campaign. Chapters detailing his military service end with the account of his discharge and rehabilitation after the loss of both hands in a gelignite accident in the staging camp at Greta, News South Wales on 24 September 1942 whilst training in preparation for embarkation to fight the Japanese in New Guinea. The remainder of the manuscript deals with Spencer Blackburne's life after the war until his death in 1995. Appendices include further family history information, transcripts of interviews with Mr Blackburne and a summary of Mr Blackburne's service record.
