Description
Outdoor portrait of the ceremony for the presentation of colours to the 58th Infantry (Essendon Rifles) Regiment, at Moonee Valley Racecourse. Second Lieutenant Frederick Harold Tubb (later VC) kneels before His Excellency Sir Ronald Munro Ferguson KT GCMG PC, and receives one of the colour flags. At the outbreak of the First World War, Lieutenant Colonel Harold 'Pompey' Elliott recruited many serving members of the 58th for his 7th Infantry Battalion, AIF, which he led on overseas service. Four members of the 7th Battalion went on to receive Victoria Crosses at Gallipoli, including Lieutenant Tubb.
