Description

404473 Leading Aircraftman (LAC) Jack Bernard Whyte, RAAF, leaning against his training aircraft (aircraft number 2464) at Calgary, Canada. LAC Whyte enlisted in the Army on 13 September 1940. He joined 31 Battalion, but was discharged to join the RAAF. He received training in Canada, was attached to the Royal Canadian Air Force and completed his training in the United Kingdom with the Royal Air Force attached to 215 Squadron. During his service Whyte was promoted to Warrant Officer (WO). On 17 May 1943, during an operation from India, WO Whyte was reported missing presumed dead.
