Foster, Daniel Edward
16 handwritten single leaf pages from the original diary of 4040 Sapper (Spr) Daniel Edward Foster who initially served with 17 Battalion until being transferred to 4th Field Coy Engineers on 12 August 1915. Spr Foster enlisted in December 1914 and returned to Australia in September 1917. These pages from his diary span the period from mid 1915 to early 1916, whilst on route to Alexandria as well as his time at Gallipoli, including the evacuation to Lemnos in December 1915. The pages are not consecutive and show some age related deterioration. The existence of any other pages from the diary is unknown. Collection also includes a typed transcript of the diary pages, accompanied by 2 pages of explanatory notes and biographical information, both having been compiled in 1990 by Mr Jim Foster, son of Pte Foster.
